Back In Detroit!

After a total fiasco with my car, a friend lent me his and we just arrived in Detroit. There's a ton of people staying at the house we're at and a pantload of parties to go to. Hope to put up some photos as soon as I can. Stay tuned...

PEOPLES POTENTIAL UNLIMITED -- PPU-012 -- UNRELEASED BOOGIE FUNK

This is a great label from DC putting out some of the best shit you've never heard. Feel free to order from them directly as the stuff they put out is in very limited quantities. This track is by Tri-Fire and is amazing. All this stuff has that real boogie feel to it that you always look for in a great track. Most records back in the day sucked due to commercial interest, these are total jam bands and real diy. Great job hunting these down and putting them on 12". PPU also does Lp's and 45's as well as DVD's and T-shirts. Check the link over on the right side somewhere.

Dj Deeon Doez Disko!

Man, I always loved Dance Mania. They had so many releases! You never knew what you were gonna find when you dropped it on the turntable. I remember going to Record Time in Detroit years ago, when Mike Huckaby worked there. I walked right in and straight up to him and asked "Where's the Dance Mania section". He said that they didn't get a lot of request for that, but pointed me in the right direction. So many cool tracks, weird tracks and just plain old funny shit on the label. I bet there's somethin on there you'll like. This one is pretty funny with a Loose Joints sample. Keep diggin.

Happy Birthday Ronnie!!!

Today is the birthdate of Ron Hardy. One of the most influential dj's in many peoples lives. He did edits for the dancefloor long before MP3's and Abelton. Today is a good day to search youtube for edits he's done. He who burns brightest, burns twice as fast. Thanks for all the music Ronnie!

So you wanna be a dj?

I can remember when being a dj was something that I wanted to do. I thought it would be so fun to play "new" music for people that they hadn't heard or caught it the first time. I don't really dj anymore but have a few records, as do most of my friends. After moving apartments this week, between moving my records and more from a friend, I thought who wants to be a dj. Yeah I'm getting older and can understand how alluring Serato or some software thing could be. Records are not fun to move, but I always find myself wanting more of them. Well if you plan on spending half your life in record stores have fun, it's worth it. I just hope you don't have to move.
