Off to Detroit Today
I haven't been to Detroit since last October and am excited to be going back today. The festival appears to get watered down over the years (as all do), but there's always some good stuff goin on. I usually just go to the parties, swim with friends at Belle Isle and go thrift/record shopping. Brad over at People's Records always has some amazing stuff. It doesn't have to be so hectic if you actually wanna enjoy your weekend. Here's the lineup regardless...and yeah I still call it DEMF.

4 Hours Of Funk Party In Baltimore
I had the pleasure of going down to Baltimore with Hunee last Friday for the 4 Hours of Funk party. Dj Exclaime & Dj Fleg throw this party and it was a sick party. Super deep funk and boogie with sprinkles of disco and house. The space this party was at was right on the border of the ghetto (and no I've never seen the Wire). Regardless this party is great and the Exclaime and Fleg are super nice dudes. Check out a link to their blog over to the right. We actually spent the next day in some really nice parts of town and hit up a great record store. Baltimore ain't so bad. I'm gonna try and make a tab on here specifically for record stores around....

Dreamscape(1984)
I remember this movie weirding me out as a kid. NOT scaring me, but just thinking it was a strange ass movie. Cool trailer though.

Ago - It Will Never Be
Thanks Raul for getting me this amazing LP last time I was in Spain. One of the best break up songs (in Italo/Boogie). "Today is a grey day for for you, at last I've made up my mind to do everything without your help" Poetic? Maybe. Great synths swirling around here with jangly guitar. Add some horns and a funky bass guitar and you got a sick track. Enjoy!

Edwin Birdsong on Philadelphia International Records
I took half the day off today from work to run around on my bike and look for records. Something about this label keeps grabbing my attention over the last few years. Probably because they put out so many quality releases. In Ny there's so many old records you end up tripping over them walking down the street. Also picked up Sound Signature 001 and a BMC Record by Carlos Perez. These records were cheap and it's a lot more fun looking for them than just "downloading" them. I bumped into a few friends and got to ride my bike. No complaints for ditchin work early to dig....
Disc and That - Space Walk
I have 2 other releases on this label Wilkerr. I didn't know this one existed (I wonder if there are more?), but really dig this track. I guess someone bootlegged the Ike Strong records this past year. Definitely a label worth grabbing when you see em....

He's always talkin bout the 7 inches he doesn't have...
45's, 45's, 45's. I love this format. They are usually not taken care of very well though. Many of their sleeves are cast aside and they all end up on top of one another in old milk crates. I don't know how many times I've found a great record only to notice it scratched to hell (for a fun/painful listen), or broken altogether. Regardless I try and take care of them the best I can. In fact this batch I scooped up on Sunday just had a bath. Soap and water.....

I'll Be With You - Bernie Worrell
A friend of mine was talking about the Bernie Worrell documentary this weekend at my BBQ. I always think everyone knows who this dude is, and am shocked if someone doesn't. I guess not everyone knew how important this guys was as he's mainly been "behind the scenes". Almost more like a studio musician that can turn a good track into a great one on occasion. He is the reason I wanted a keyboard to begin with, hearing Parliament's Flashlight as a kid. It's on Netflix, you can buy the DVD. I just watched the trailer for the doc and think I'll watch it right now...
